Need some logo design help

I'm building a website for my local volunteer group (Jaycees).
I can handle the technical aspect of building a website, but when it comes to anything design-related I draw a blank.
I need a logo that is around the same length of the menu bar for the forums (Below the Polk logo), but twice the width, and I need it to be transparent or colored to match the background of my page (#333333).
The logo should say "McMinnville Jaycees", or something similar to that (abbreviations, fancy stuff, etc is fine).
Anyone here have any experience in photoshop or something similar?

In case anyone is willing to help out, here is where you can see the basic template I'm using.

You probably want the roll-over tabs on the pages something different than the HOME tab. Basically, have a tab design for the page you are currently on, a different design for the rollover-tab, and then a third design for the tabs that are "off". (ie you dont want PROJECTS to look the same as HOME when you roll-over PROJECTS).
I have spent endless hours trying to get the menu bar on my departments website / overall design just right. Website design - doing it right - is really an art-form of sorts. Photoshop is what I use to build images versus just typing within Dreamweaver...if this make sense. -

I'm sure there are a few here that could help. It would help if you knew exactly what size you wanted the logo to be (in pixels), so it can be properly scaled. If your not sure what size you want, put up any image and use the width & height information to change the dimensions till you get the size your after.

The logo needs to be 252x961 (height-width).
Kev - I assume you mean so that people know which tab they are in by the effect that tab has?"Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men.
